DATABASE UPDATE: started as a user interface; this fully automated application takes accommodation rates and its policies from the AS400, and send them to the airline reservations systems databases like Amadeus, RoomMaster, Sabre and WorldSpan (previously, Axess and SystemOne were also included) which are retrieved by travel agencies around the world. Used EasyView and 3270 emulation to communicate. A similar application was coded up to the user interface stage, to update hotel and chain descriptions. Wrote a fully automated Control System to alert the GDS department when any of the database update terminals stopped working. Both applications communicate with the in-house AS400 through customized strings; using Rumba 5250 emulator and Client Access communications software; from either Windows 3.x or Windows 95. Written in QIK; a Shell Scripting programming language provided by STS -Sabre Technology Solutions. To go beyond its limitations, small routines in DOS BATCH and VISUAL BASIC 4.0 were written to support this 4GL language. Reported 4GL bugs and helped STS programmers with troubleshooting.
